Roman Fibulae

Item 1208: One piece brooch
Date ?
Size 54.4 mm long
Weight 3.8 gr
Material Copper alloy.
Description A fibula made from a single piece of metal. The oblong profiled body narrows out and doubles back to form the catch, which thins down to a fine wire which is wrapped around the body behind the catch. the other end reduces into a round wire which forms the spring and pin. The design of the spring and pin is typical of La Tene II while the catch is typical of Roman P shaped bow brooches, so identification has not yet been confirmed.
