Neolithic

Neolithic Period

Neolithic peoples have been present in this region since at least 6000 BC. Today, evidence of their prescence can be found daily at many locations scattered through the area. Unlike Roman and Medieval sites, the Neolithic settlements are well documented. Successive waves and cultures have left a rich variety of pottery which is so common that it can be picked out of flower beds in the local town's centre. The finds presented here are a sample of tools and artefacts. Pottery will eventually be dealt with in a seperate section.
