Roman Republican Coinage

Republican & Imperatorial Coins

Few coins of the republican era have yet come to light. Those that have been found are usually well worn and carry many banker's stamps on them. Included here are Apollonian coins.

Illyrian Coinage

Apollonia and Dyrrhachium were Greek colonial city states in what is now Albania. Eventually coming under roman control, their last issues of drachmas in the 70s BC, were produced at a highly increased rate than previously and used to purchase slaves for Rome in Dacia (Romania) and can often be found in this region. The coins are easily recognisable due to the cow and calf design they carry. Many forgeries exist.
