Julia Maesa, the grandmother of Elagabalus, instigated a revolt against
Macrinus and claimed that her grandson was the son of Caracalla. Elagabalus
defeated Macrinus. He soon became hated by his imposition of his Syrian
religion on Rome. Eventually, his own grandmother arranged to have him
killed.
