Roman Fibulae

Item 1145: Boar Brooch
Date
Size 39 mm long x 28 mm high
Weight 11.25 gram
Description

A half-profile boar-shaped fibula. Very finely cast with fields of enamel, probably blue and yellow, in a roughly rectangular shape, split into three fields, and five circular fields on the hindquarters. Very fine blue-green patina adds to the sharpness of the design. Catch and swivel pin intact. The tail was originally a full loop and has been damaged. A very similar example was found at Titelburg in Luxembourg.

Ref: Riha 7.25; Feugere 29, Ettlinger 48.
